In 1937 “The Hannover Group Insurance Company” received authorization to operate in Guatemala.

In 1940 “The Firemen’s Insurance Company” began operations in Guatemala, represented by H.B. Rich and Co. Sucs. and managed by Ricardo Rich and Max Bilak.

In 1967 La Seguridad de Centroamérica, Compañía de Seguros, S.A. began operations, being constituted with the contribution of the portfolios of the companies: “The Hannover Group Insurance Company”, “The Firemen’s Insurance Company” and “American Home Assurance”, since that moment forming part of the American International Group, Inc. (AIG).

In 2009, the company name of La Seguridad de Centroamérica was changed to Chartis Seguros Guatemala, S.A., strengthening the company’s global image.

In 2011, at the General Shareholders’ Meeting, the purchase of the Republic of Honduras branch of the US entity American Home Assurance Company was authorized.

In 2013, the AIG brand is reintroduced to the Guatemalan market with the change of name from Chartis Seguros Guatemala, S.A. to AIG Seguros Guatemala, S.A.

In October 2015, ASSA Compañía Tenedora, S.A., the holding company of ASSA Compañía de Seguros, S.A., a company dedicated to the General, Surety, Life and Health insurance business in the Republic of Panama, agreed to acquire 100% of AIG’s insurance operations in Central America.

Subsequently, on January 19, 2017, ASSA Compañía Tenedora, S.A., acquired the shares of AIG Seguros Guatemala, S.A. forming what is now ASSA Compañía de Seguros, S.A. in Guatemala. Thus completing 50 years of service to Guatemalan and foreign families and companies, with insurance of Fire, Civil Liability, Financial Lines, Car, Homeowners, Personal Accident, Medical Expenses, and Group Life and Voluntary Insurance for employees.
